The brief for this studio is to develop a sequence of exhibitions, viewpoints, and residents in the center of the historical district, Alhambra. While honoring the historical atmosphere of the place, we must cope with unfinished construction, complicated landscapes, and eventually Ruin Landscapes.
The basic idea is to dialogue on several levels between the architecture and the landscape. Three flamenco spots are located in a ring surrounding the ancient landmark of Alhambra. The level hierarchy of three places and the Alhambra creates a potential tour trail from the top to the lowest. Our tour route is known as the flamenco adventure. The Flamenco - adventure will begin from the highest point - the perspective - and end in the Black Box. The approach creates a buffer zone between Alhambra and the City on an urban scale. This buffer zone will represent the transition between Ancient Alhambra and Granada city. The past and the present create the site.
We did research on the type of greenery in Alhambra. We divide these into medicinal plants, vegetable gardens, and ornamental plants. And we propose to use some of these plants inside the park of the Meersman Museum.
View Point- Beginning of the Journey
As an extra Infrastructure for this Pathway at a higher level, we suggest a View Point. Four different frames of view focus on various aspects of the Alhambra.
Meersman Museum – the Artist resident:
'Ruined Architecture' as an Aesthetic Aspect of Artists' Housing. This damaged structure is the result of nature's and time's destruction. It produces a distinct Aesthetics character. The idea is a floating box within the ruined structure that makes a connection between the old and the new. The floating box will give private space for artists, while the devastated area will be used for public activities.
Flamenco dancing box - Ending of the Journey
It uses an old wall as part of the concept to connect the main stage stair to the coffee shop on the right side. The Flamenco stage is a transparency box that merges nicely with the surrounding location stage and will float above the landscape and face the Alhambra.
